The length of a rectangle is 6 cm and it's width is 4 cm.If the length is increased by 2 cm,what should be the width of the new rectangle that has the same area as the first one.

A: 6

B: 8

C: 3

D: 24

Correct Answer : C

We first get the area of the first rectangle given the length and the width

length = 6 cm

width = 4 cm

area = length * width

area = 6 * 4

Area of first rectangle  = 24 cm²

if the length is increased by 2cm the new length becomes 6 + 2 = 8 cm

if the area of the two rectangles are the same ,we use the area to find the width of the new rectangle

Area = length * width
A = 8cm * w
24 = 8w
w = (24/8)
width = 3 cm
